weiter geht es mit den Fragen an ihn:
You were also in the newspaper last week. Shall I read it to you?
(Nods) I've never had so much coffee in my life.
"Schindler's List' star Ralph Fiennes was seen enjoying a spot of tonsil tickling with a mystery lady at a recent premiere." Isn't that mortifying?
(Smiles) No. I had a huge sense of oncoming panic as you sat there about to read it, and when you finished it I thought, that's OK, I can deal with that one.
You have to admire slightly the term "tonsil tickling."
Mm. Yes. God, isn't it extraordinary world? I'm happy that on the whole I choose to be ignorant. I suppose I could ask a publicist to send me everything that is written, but I love not knowing. Ignorance is bliss.
Do you care about being liked?
I feel upset if I feel I've done someone an injustice. I care about that. But, no, I don't really care. I do care as an actor if the work is liked. If you feel you put everything into it and people say, "Well, it wasn't that great" or "I didn't get it," it's a rejection. That's crippling. It hurts. I think the critics can use words that completely make you feel as if you have no business to be up there.
Such as...? What's the nastiest thing a critic wrote about you?
Oh, I don't want to see it in print again, so I'm not going to tell you. Actually, now I can laugh about it, but for a long time I carried it with me.

Thyself away art present still with me;
For thou not farther than my thoughts canst
move, And I am still with them and they
with thee;"... Sonnet 47
